Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted raids at two different locations and arrested five alleged drug peddlers in Chatra district. Police said on Tuesday that all five of them had been sent to jail. Of these five, three were captured from Giddhore with 20 g of brown sugar. In a second raid in Lawalong, two more door-to-door sellers were arrested with 2kg of opium.

Simaria SDPO Ashok Priyadarshi said, “After Chatra SP got a tip-off, he formed teams to crack down on smugglers. A team led by Giddhore Circle Officer, Jai Shankar Pathak, started a vehicle check drive on the Gangpur-Pathalgada road and two persons were arrested on a bike without a registration plate. During the flush, the police found brown sugar in their procession. They confessed to hiding more contraband in Purnadih forest which was also found and one more person was arrested.”

The arrested have been identified as Vikram Mehta, Amit Kumar Mehta and Pradeep Yadav.

In Lawalong, another police team nabbed two men on the Khandgada-Madanpur road. “When the police approached them, they ran, but after a chase, they were caught. Later, 2 kg of opium was confiscated from them. They have been identified as Yogesh Kumar and Fagun Ganjhu,” Priyadarshi added.
